Compassion can hurt us and others sometimes. Understanding why people act the way they do can aid us in finding compassion for them. But too much compassion won’t hold them accounting for their actions. When we’re feeling too much compassion for another person we can end up feeling victimized further. We end up resenting people and neglect our feelings and needs. Too much compassion can mean we don’t believe in the other person’s ability to be responsible and help themselves. How disrespectful is that? How would you feel if someone disrespected you in this way? We need to examine why we’re doing this? Is it a sense of guilt, fear or anxiety?
