Look Back Don’t Stare!
This is an old saying from the rooms of Al-anon that I picked up some time ago. It drove me nuts for a long time as I felt I had to go over all the little grievances I had. But in time within these rooms and with therapy I came to see that I could look back at the past with acceptance and forgiveness. Don’t get me wrong I still have days when something could trigger a memory and I realise I have something more I need to work on myself but for the most part, I’m learning to let go. For me not staring at the past has allowed me to move on and not become caught up in anger. It helped me find the serenity and forgiveness that I needed and for that, I will be eternally grateful to all those in the rooms of Al-anon for what they have taught me.
